Constructions
2011-2013

When a brick is laid on another brick, a stone on a stone, a beam on a column, a construction ensues. Today constructions are very often printed, and the effect easily sinks to the level of something artificial and stodgy. Instead, the archaic act of laying bricks on bricks continues, and metaphorically too, to symbolize the true sense of building, adding piece to piece, element to element, detail to detail. Constructing means putting things together, putting together material, objects, thoughts, opinions, human positions. It is never a single thing, a single piece, an ineluctable imposition, but always the action of one small piece on another, one small piece after another, one small fillet after another, as in my own constructions.
